Théodore de Banville (1823-1891) was a French poet and playwright. He wrote several plays in verse. He was also a dramatic critic. He was decorated with the Legion of Honour in 1858. Read more about him at (visit link)
This monument in his honor, located in the Jardin du Luxembourg, features a bust of him at its top. It depicts him barechested but for a piece of a robe flowing over his right shoulder. The pedestal is more ornamented with several flourishes and also a bronze sculpture of a lyre and flowers. The pedestal is also set on a platform which is two steps up from the walkway and surrounded by attractive bushes.
