Brecksville Nature Center (formerly Brecksville Trailside Museum) was built by the WPA. The wood used to construct this building is American Chestnut. The Chestnut trees were killed by disease and were standing dead in the forest. The logs were cut into lumber by a portable saw mill powered by a steam engine in Brecksville reservation. The stone part of the building is native Berea sandstone and was quarried nearby.
