This monument is located in the Jardin du Luxembourg. It displays a young boy wearing only short pants holding up a mask for sale with his left arm. At his feet are several other masks.
The plaque reads:
"LE MARCHAND DE MASQUES
Zacharie ASTRUC (1836-1907)
Le marchand presente les masques
de Hugo, Gambetta, Corot,
Dumas fils, Berlioz, Carpeaux,
Faure, Delacroix, Balzac,
et Barbey d'Aurevilly."
I believe "marchand" in this case means a seller.
As for the honorees...Hugo would be The Hunchback of Notre-Dame author Victor Hugo (
