This mausoleum is the final resting place of four members of the Austin family, one of the founding families of Chambly.

A plaque on the mausoleum reads:

In memory of

The Honourable Thomas Austin, member of the Special Council, Lower Canada 1838-1841. Commander of the Queen's Mounted Rangers and Lieutenant-Colonel of Canadian Militia. Registrar of Chambly County 1844-1864. Born 27 January 1901 at Bath, England. Son of the Reverend Hugh Williams Austin and Mary Forster Hendy of St. Peter's, Barbados. Died 25 May 1880 at Clifton, England.

And of his wife Charlotte Whitchurch,* a descendant of King Edward I. Born 31 December 1794 at Bristol, England, daughter of Samuel Whitchurch and Mary Evans. Died 21 August 1863 at Chambly.

The Honourable Henry William Austin,* called to the Bar of Lower Canada 1848. Chief Justice of the Bahamas 1880-1890. Born 10 August 1825 at Ilfracombe, England. Died 16 December 1893 at Montreal.

Frederick Piercy Austin* Died at Lennoxville 11 August 1840 aged 12

Wyndham Bruce Austin* Died at Chambly 6 March 1904 aged 73

Charlotte Bury O'Meara Died at Kingston-upon-Thames, England, 21 August 1913 aed 79

*At rest within this vault. Also grandsons Thomas A. Austin 1857-1858 and William W. Austin 1863-1937.

Commemorated 1982 by Marie Louise Austin Barber, great-great-granddaughter of Thomas and Charlotte Austin.

ABOUT THE CEMETERY:

St. Stephen's Anglican Church was constructed in 1820 and is located in Chambly, Quebec, Canada. It is surrounded by trees and a very old cemetery. In the cemetery are several mausoleums, including those of the Yule, Hatt, Johnson, Austin, and Campbell families who were among the founders of Chambly.
