Im Sommer 1986 nahm der Westberliner Journalist Michael Magercord verbotenerweise im S- und U-Bahnhof Friedrichstraße eine Serie von über 100 Fotografien auf, die den ganz alltäglichen Betrieb im geteilten Bahnhof festhielten. Mit einer in einer Zigarettenschachtel versteckten Minox-Kleinbildkamera gelangen Magercord einmalige Aufnahmen vom Niemandsland im und um den Bahnhof. Die durch S- und U-Bahnfenster, aus der Hüfte oder um die Ecke geschossenen Bilder vermitteln einen unverstellten Eindruck von der beklemmenden Atmosphäre dieses Brennpunktes der geteilten Hauptstadt und machen die heute beinahe unwirklich anmutende Realität im einst geteilten Berlin deutlich.

In the summer of 1986 West Berlin journalist Michael Magercord took illegally in the S-and U-train station Friedrichstrasse a serie of over 100 pictures which showed the everyday operation of the shared station. With a Minox miniature camera hidden in a pack of cigarettes Magercord get unique shots from the no man's land in and around the station. The pictures taken through the S- and U-train windows, from the hips or around the corner, showed an undistorted impression of the oppressive atmosphere of this focal point of the divided capital to do the almost unreal reality today in what was once clearly divided Berlin.
