This sculpture is located in the Jardin du Luxembourg. It depicts Margaret standing and holding her hands in front of her as well as grasping her robes. She is wearing a crown as well. The piece is signed "Husson" and dated 1847.
Margaret of Provence (1221-1295) served as Queen Consort for 36 years (1234-1270). She was married to Louis IX at age 13 and crowned Queen the following day. She and Louis had eleven children. Her marriage, and the marriage of her three sisters to the King of England and the Princes of England and France helped to secure a period of peace between the two countires.
She accompanied Louis on his first Crusade...and was briefly the leader of the Crusade while Louis was captured and held for ransom.
