This sculpture is located in the Jardin du Luxembourg. It depicts Anne, standing and crowned, clutching her dress at her waist with her left hand while holding a tassled object in her right. There is no information at the site about the artist and date.

Anne (1477-1514) was initially promised in marriage to Edward, Prince of Wales, son of Edward IV of England in 1483; however, the boy disappeared, and was presumed dead, soon after the death of Edward IV. Her father sought to prevent Brittany from being absorbed by France. However, by 1488, peace accords between France and Brittany prevented the the Breton heirs from marrying without the approval of the King of France. Anne's father died soon thereafter - making her the Duchess of Brittany. She soon married the anti-French Maximilian I of Austria. France took this as a provocation and attacked Brittany...which its allies were unable to help. She was made to marry French King Charles VIII in 1491...even though she was still married to Maxmilian. Nevertheless, Pope Innocent VIII validated the marriage. Charles VIII died in 1498 after they had four children...and Anne was then obligated to marry the new King, Louis XII...even though HE was already married. Again, the Pope annulled Louis' marriage to Joan. She regained her title as Duchess of Brittany and continued to fight for the Duchy's independence. Read more about her at (visit link)
