This is a popular pub just outside the centre of Colchester which hosts a range of life music mainly Friday and Saturday (but check the gig guide on the web site). It usually features 3 real ales and provides snacks at the bar. A large screen TV shows Sky Sports whilst there is a beer garden to the rear.
The pub, being called The Bull, would have a bull on its pub sign but this one goes one better with a life-sized Hereford tethered to the parapet above the second storey bay above the entrance. October 2015, beginning to look in need of a new coat.
The Bull is Grade II listed having a C18th front with an older timber-framed core. It's had the C19th public house treatment. On the ground floor there are two canted bays and a carriage arch to the right, all faced with tiles. It's rendered and painted above. There are five windows on the first floor, four sashes with twelve panes and glazing bars with shouldered architrave surrounds, and one oriel bay window, forty panes and glazing bars and an architrave top, over the main entrance door. It has a plain parapet and a tiled roof.
