No longer used as a church, St.Giles is now the Masonic Centre for Colchester. It is a Grade II listed building originally constructed in the C12th with additions and extensions in the C13th, the chancel, and C14th, the nave and north aisle. It has a C16th north chapel and south porch, whilst the west tower, timber-framed and weather-boarded, dates from C17th-C18th. Ther has been much C19th and modern restoration.
One interesting stone floor tablet (now placed on the north wall of the north chapel) is to Sir Charles Lucas and Sir George Lisle, both shot after the siege of Colchester in 1648.
The PA bolt and cut-mark are on the corner of the north-west angle to the left of the west door. Last verified and levelled in 1962 as being 24.4968m above Newlyn Datum it is 0.9m above ground level.
