The San Juan Islands are northwest of Seattle and northeast of Victoria, Canada. There are approximately 172 islands depending on whether it is low tide or high tide. We traveled from Anacortes to Friday Harbor at San Juan Island with a car as we wanted to explore the island. We visited San Juan Island and two other islands - Orcas and Lopez - with a Road Scholar (Elderhostel) group in a bus and vans. The Stone Lookout Tower on Mt. Constitution was the high point of our trip to Orcas Island. A 1 hour advance arrival is advised for vehicle traffic. Walk-on passengers should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to sailing.
