The San Juan Islands are northwest of Seattle and northeast of Victoria, Canada. There are approximately 172 islands depending on whether it is low tide or high tide. We traveled from Anacortes to Friday Harbor at San Juan Island with a car as we wanted to explore the island. We visited San Juan Island and two other islands - Orcas and Lopez - with a Road Scholar (Elderhostel) group in a bus and vans. Lopez Island is 15 miles long and 8 miles wide. The terminal is located at the end of Ferry Road near Upright Head.
