Suzuki is a large multinational corporation that sells cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs and marine motors.
The parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, actually started out in 1909 in Japan as Suzuki Loom Works building looms for the silk industry. Plans for the automotive part of the business began in 1937 but that was short lived due to World War II. The loom business basically died in 1951, and Suzuki quickly moved into the motorcycle business. Starting first with motorized bicycles, Suzuki's innovative design allowed him to get government subsidy for research in motorcycle engineering. In 1953, a 60 cc Suzuki 'Diamond free' won its class at the Mount Fuji Hill Climb. Suzuki Motors was well on it way and produced a successful, innovative automobile in 1955, the Suzuki Suzulight.
In 1963, Suzuki expanded into the US and by 1967 had established a US assembly plant. Expansion into Canada was in 1973, when Suzuki Canada Ltd. opened in Ontario.
According to Wikipedia (
