Ce timbre présente les bâtiments les plus prestigieux du village (Maison Sevestre, Maison de La Ronade, Maison de Bargues, Beffroi, Maison Flogeac)
Par contre, le timbre est un montage. Plusieurs bâtiments normalement séparé les uns des autres ont été accolés pour réaliser cet ensemble.
Dans le fond, l'auteur "Claude DURRENS" a dessiné le Puy Mary.
C'est un timbre horizontal 36x21,45 mm Dentelure 13. Il a été émis le 22 juin 1974. Oblitération 1er jour à Salers (Cantal).
La grandeur passée de Salers se traduit par son architecture Renaissance datant de l'époque du Baillage des Hautes montagnes d'Auvergne.
De la place principale avec ses hôtels particuliers aux ruelles plus populaires, allez jusqu'à l'église Saint Mathieu.
Elle abrite une mise au tombeau du XVème siècle et des tapisseries d'Aubusson du XVIIème siècle.
A l'extrémité de la cité, l'esplanade de Barrouze surplombe les vallées de l'Aspre et de la Marone avec une vue sur le Puy Violent.
Salers a reçu le label des plus beaux villages de France.
