Samuel Austin II was born August 29, 1758 in North Carolina.  He fought for the Continental army for a short time as a young man.  Following the war he got married and had nine children. He was friends of William Freeman who was also a Revolutionary War veteran who also came to Greene County.  Samuel came to Greene County, Missouri in about 1835 with most of his family.  His son Greene Austin had moved earlier to Greene county with the Freeman family (he was married to one of the Freeman daughters).

Samuel did receive a pension and bounty land for his war service.

Samuel died in 1854 and was originally buried in a the family cemetery.  In March 1913 his body was exhumed and moved to Hazelwood Cemetery and buried next to his son Greene.
