On Russell Road (Route 9) an historical marker is located on the westbound approach to the Calvin Coolidge Bridge. It is inscribed:

Settled in 1650 by families from
Hartford. The Regicides Gener-
als Goffe and Whalley were
concealed for fifteen
years in the Pastor's house.
