The text on the original headstone is very worn and difficult to read, but a newer marker has been placed adjacent to it. The original headstone spells his surname as "Curtiss" while the DAR marker spells it as "Curtis."

"Benjamin CURTIS. In Col. Elisha SHELDON's Light Dragoon, 1777 to 1783. He was in the 6th Troop. Enlisted 6 Mar 1777; was a farmer from Salisbury. Pensioner in 1818, d. 1823."
