It was built at the site of the old Sé church. It took forty years to complete, was initiated in 1938 and inaugurated in 1978. It seats 5,000 people and its towers reach 75 meters in height. The French architect George Maunier signed the bill, with a predominance of Gothic and Romanesque elements and references to the Cologne Cathedral and the Cathedral of Chartres. St. Joseph is the saint linked to this cathedral.
In 2007, the cathedral underwent its last renovation, with verification of the structure and renewing it, and the inclusion of new decorative elements inside the building.
