Long Description:

The James Mattson or Red Brick Road was originally part of the roadway that let residents of Seattle and the surrounding area travel to Snoqualmie Pass. Later in became part of the transcontinental Yellowstone Trail.

This section of the road was paved with red bricks manufactured in Renton when James Mattson convinced county officals of the need for a more durable road. The dirt road was often impassable during the rainy season.

A great deal of restoration work was done by King County in the 1980's to restore the aging brick road.
