Pickering was a Revolutionary War Militia officer. He is buried next to his daughter, mary, who died at the age of 9. From East Mulbery Township.

The original stone is gone but sometime in the mid-20th century, perhaps earlier, a new stone and bronze marker replaced his original stone. In the mid 19th century, someone went around and wrote down all the descriptions, which by then, were already badly faded. Today many of the stones are simply gone. Next to him the headstone of his daughter still exists. Captain Pickering's grave marker reads:
