"The PUBLIC LIBRARY, NE. corner of Market and High Sts., is a Greek Revival structure of gray limestone. Designed by F.O.Weary and constructed in 1904, it was made possible through gifts of L.V.Bierce and Andrew Carnegie. It houses 150,000 volumes. The interior is modeled after that of the Congressional Library, Washington D.C."
In 1942, the main library moved to the former Akron Beacon Journal newspaper building at East Market and Summit streets. In 1969, it moved to a brand-new facility at 55 S. Main St.
The Akron Art Institute took over the old Carnegie site in 1947 and remained there until the museum moved across the street in 1981. The building was later was home to the Roetzel and Andress law firm. Today it's known as the Carnegie Building and houses Brennan, Manna & Diamond Attorneys and Counselors at Law.
