The great AW described Mungrisdale Common as "a pudding that has been sat on" and that the Common`s attractions "are of a type that appeals only to sheep." In other words, not worthy of the walk that must be made to attain this waypoint. Actually what you get when you are at this cairn are superb views of the backs of some of the best known summits of the northern fells: Blencathra, Skiddaw, Great Calva, Lonscale Fell, Bowscale Fell etc.

In order to log this waypoint you must take a picture of yourself stood beside the summit cairn with your GPS in hand, and with Skiddaw in the background.

The terrain is undulating with some uphill stretches in places. It is highly recommended that you wear suitable clothing and footwear when attempting this waypoint and, more importantly, take note of the weather forecast before setting off for this waypoint as you would not want to be caught, out as there is no shelter on the common. Also, let someone know what route you intend to take and how long you intend to be out.
Cairn Location: It pinpoints the highest point of Mungrisdale Common in the Northern Fells of the Lake District.
