"Alpha Phi fraternity was founded in 1872 at Syracuse University, and throughout our 125 years, our organization has grown internationally. Our Beta Psi chapter here at San José State University was founded in 1948, and we have been growing strong now for 53 years. The reason we are called a fraternity is because when we were founded the word sorority had not been coined yet."
