David Bedell was born in April 17, 1761 in Morris County, New Jersey. He enlisted at age 17 in unit under Captains George Gray and John Craig in what was called Gray's Troop, Col. Stephen Moylan's Regiment of the 4th Continental Light Dragoons of the Pennsylvania Line. He first served as a drummer boy and then as a dragoon (cavalry).

Following the War he married Ruth Fairchild whose father (Caleb Fairchild) and grandfather (Matthew Fairchild) had both fought in the Revolution. Ruth's sister Mary "Mollie" Fairchild married David's boyhood friend, Elisha Headlee, also a Revolutionary War veteran.

In 1798, David and Ruth along with their young son David, moved to Burke County, North Carolina where the Headlee's had moved seven years previously. Four additional Bedell sons were born there.

On October 27, 1828 David Bedell age 69 applied for and received a War pension along with a bounty land warrant.

In the summer of 1834, the oldest son, David corresponded with his cousin John Headlee, who had moved to Greene County north of Springfield. Later that year the widowed David Bedell and his four sons all moved Greene county via covered wagon and settle in the vicinity of Ebenezer about 10 miles north of Springfield. Soon David's childhood friend, brother-in-law, and also widower Elisha Headley along with several Headlee children also moved to northern Greene County to live.

David Bedell died March 24, 1840, just short of his 80th birthday. He was laid to rest in the Old Salem Cemetery. His long time friend and brother-in-law, Elisha Headlee, who died to five later was buried next to him in 1845.
