The original portion of the Laclede County Courthouse was built in 1924 - 1925 with the completion in June 1925. This courthouse replaced an earlier Second Empire style courthouse which was destroyed by fire on February 28, 1920. The building is a three story red brick with Carthage stone trimmed structure. It was designed by Architect Earl Hawkins of Springfield. Over the years as county grew the courthouse needed to grow with it. The most recent addition was in 1997, it expanded the courthouse substantially to the north of the original portion. The addition was designed by the firm of Abend Singleton and Associates.
