D. Dinis was essentially an administrator and not a warrior king: engaging in war with Castile in 1295, gave her in exchange for the towns of Serpa and Moura. By the Treaty of Alcanises (1297) signed peace with Castile, defining the boundaries that treaty existing between the two Iberian countries. By this treaty also provided 40 years of peace, friendship and mutual defense.
