This thermometer was built in 2002. The original cairn was built in 1936 (Sarnia was named by John Colborne in 1836). The original plaque is still part of this memorial. The thermometer ranges from -40 to +40.
Inscription: "Commemorating our anniversary
1836 Sarnia 1936
Erected by the citizens"
Plaque: "On August 3, 1936 the original Centennial Anniversary Cairn was unveiled in Victoria Park as a lasting memorial of the naming of our city in 1836 by Sir John Colborne, Lt. Gov. of Upper Canada.
Embedded in the face of this reconstruction is the original granite plaque which was found and preserved by Ron and Jann Burd who have graciously donated it to the city."
