Wir parken unser Auto in Trafoi - am Besten in der Nähe der Talstation des Sessellifts etwa 200 m unterhalb des Hotels Bellavista (in der Kurve). Mit dem Bus fahren wir hinauf auf das Stilfserjoch. Schon die Auffahrt ist ein Erlebnis, zu sehen wie der Bus sich durch die 46 engen Kehren (zwei befinden sich unterhalb von Trafoi) - ohne einmal zurücksetzen zu müssen - auf den Berg hinaufarbeitet. Auf dieser Strecke dürfen nur spezielle Busse, die nicht länger als 10,50 m sind fahren. Unterwegs haben wir vielleicht das Glück ein paar Murmeltiere zu sehen.
Auch für diese Wanderung gilt das bei der Wanderung zur Rötlspitze gesagte: Wir sind hier mitten im Hochgebirge. Ein beachtlicher Teil der Route verläuft auf schmalen Steigen, die teilweise ausgesetzt sind. Daher sind neben gutem Schuhwerk auch Trittsicherheit und eine gute Portion Schwindelfreiheit erforderlich. Insbesondere Altschneereste erfordern besondere Aufmerksamkeit.
Von der Paßhöhe des Stilfserjochs (2757 m) wandern wir hinauf auf die Dreisprachenspitze (2843 m) und zum Lempruch-Lager. Von hier wandern wir auf dem mit der Nr. 20 gekennzeichneten Südtiroler Wanderweg weiter. Nach den zwei durch Ketten gesicherten Stellen steigen wir aber nicht links hinauf wie bei der Tour zur Rötlspitze, sondern nehmen den Weg geradeaus weiter. Er zieht langsam fallend an der Südflanke der Korspitze entlang zu einem Sattel. Hier halten wir uns links und umrunden den in einer tiefen Mulde liegenden Goldsee auf seiner Nordseite. Rasch gelangen wir zum nächsten Sattel.
Hier befand sich im ersten Weltkrieg die Goldseestellung (2740 m) der Österreicher. Ruinen alter Militärgebäude sind hier noch zu sehen. Etwa 100 Meter entfernt kann man durch eine noch erhaltene Schießscharte den Blickwinkel eines Soldaten auf das Stilfserjoch nachvollziehen. Verschiedene Tafeln erläutern hier die geschichtlichen Zusammenhänge.
Die Stellung wurde bereits 1912 errichtet, aber zu Beginn des Krieges erst einmal aufgegeben, weil die Österreicher zunächst ihre Verteidigungslinie im Tal im Bereich Gomagoi hatten. Erst nach der Eroberung des Monte Scorluzzo wurde auch diese Stellung wieder bezogen.
Erstmals können wir von hier bis ins Etschtal, also den Vinschgau hinabschauen. Nun geht es linkshaltend weiter auf dem Weg Nr. 20. Dieser führt zunächst in nördlicher Richtung weiterhin am Hang entlang und verliert zunächst noch recht langsam an Höhe. Stellenweise ist der Weg recht ausgesetzt. Tief unten im Tal können wir einige Häuser von Trafoi sehen.
Wir kommen in ein Gebiet, wo in früherer Zeit der Hang abgerutscht ist. Das Gelände ist dementsprechend von Felsbrocken durchsetzt. Eine weitere Tafel erläutert uns die Begebenheiten. Lawinenverbauungen sollen das Tal schützen. Nun haben wir einen herrlichen Blick ins Etschtal, ins Matscher Tal oberhalb von Mals und Schlanders und in die Ötztaler Alpen.
Tief im Tal sehen wir nun Gomagoi und die Abzweigung nach Sulden. Erstmals sehen wir auch das Ziel der Wanderung, die Furkelhütte.
Wir ignorieren bald den Abzweig zur Oberen Tartscher Alm. Unser Weg führt weiter durch felsiges Gelände. Nun geht es stärker bergab. Der Weg führt im Zickzack hinab. In einem flacheren Stück durchqueren wir das Furkeltal. 450 m oberhalb befindet sich der Paß Fuorcla Costainas zwischen dem Piz Costainas und dem Groß-Tartscherkopf und damit die Grenze zur Schweiz.
Wir gehen weiter bergab und kommen bald in Zirbenwald. Der Weg wird bequemer und bringt uns bald zur Talstation eines Skiliftes. Nun sind es nur noch wenige Schritte bis zur Furkelhütte (2153 m). Von hier fährt der Sessellift hinab nach Trafoi. Wer die etwa 20-minütige Abfahrt mit dem Lift nicht mag, der kann auch zu Fuß nach Trafoi gelangen. Der Weg Nr. 17 führt in etwa 1 1/4 Stunden die 600 m Höhenunterschied ins Tal hinab.
Wanderzeit : etwa 3 1/2 Stunden (10 km).
Höhenunterschiede : Aufstieg etwa 85 m, Abstieg etwa 690 m.
Höchste Stelle : Dreisprachenspitze 2843 m.
