Since the 1930s, this classic library has been called haunted - haunted by the builder's daughter.
Willard Carpenter had this library built in 1885. He died before the library was completed, but it was totally his project. Carpenter was a businessman and philanthropist and was well known as such throughout the city and also known as one that helped freed slaves escape to the north, with his home being a stop on the Underground Railroad.
This was all well and good, except for Carpenter's estranged daughter didn't like that she was left out of his will. Since then, she returned to his library and has been haunting it ever since as The Grey Lady.
The show, "Ghost Hunters" has done an episode in the library and they were not able to detect any signs of paranormal activity. They claim to have debunked the stories, but people still claim to see her!
