This church was founded in 1854. Originally a wooden structure, the current stone church was built in 1856 by Scottish Stonemasons. The stone used in the building is from Hamilton mountain. A manse and school building were added in 1871 and 1878. In 1877 an organ was added to the church. The building also features a clock.
The church is separated by railway from the historic Whitehern property.
