A central figure in the 1960's Civil Rights movement, Dr King gave a stirring speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963. Often known as the 'I have a Dream" speech, the full text can be found here (visit link) .

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial opened to the public on August 22, 2011 - 48 years after his speech. It is located in the Northwest corner of the Tidal Basin.

The Washington Monument may be closed to tourists due to earthquake damage, but the shop is still open for business (and waymarkers!)
