This statue is located in Place des Pyramides...where Joan of Arc was wounded during her attempt to take Paris.

This 1874 gilded broze statue depicts Joan of Arc on horseback with her right hand holding high a victorious banner. Joan is wearing armor and has a sword at her left side. The horse is also wearing some armor around it's face. The statue is 13 feet tall and is set on a stone pedestal of about the same height. See the Wikipedia article for the statue at (

The French artist, Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910), was actually mostly known for his sculptures of animals.
Joan of Arc, (c.1412-1431) was a peasant girl who had divine visions which not only helped her to persuade the French King to let her lead an army- but also led her to victories during the Hundred Years War. The English eventually got ahold of her and burned her at the stake for supposed heresies. She is considered a national hero in France and was canonized as a Saint in 1920. Read more about her at (
