Not Now Comrade is a traditional English farce. A Russian ballet dancer defects outside the Albert Hall. He was supposed to have hidden in the boot of the car of exotic dancer Barbara Wilcox, but by mistake gets into the boot of naval officer Commander Rimmington. Most of the action then takes place at Commander Rimmington’s home. His daughter and future son in law, Gerry Buss, get involved in trying to get the Commander out of the house whilst they hide the ballet dancer. The house descends into a typical farce as people race in and out of various doors, missing each other by split seconds. Eventually the ballet dancer has enough of being moved around and decides to go back to Russia.

Most of the film is shot on a stage set, however there are scenes at the start and end of the film which are shot outside. At the start of the film Gerry Bus is seen driving through the local village and stops to buy a paper in the local shop. The scene is necessary to the plot so that Gerry Bus can read about the defector in the paper before arriving at the Commander’s house.
