In this episode the Saint goes undercover on behalf of the government. A band of mercenaries are being trained by Jonathan Roper and the Saint has to find out why. The Saint accepts a series of challenges set by Roper and his sergeant major in order to gain favour with Roper. Eventually the Saint is trusted and joins the mercenaries in stealing Scottish army uniforms. The uniforms are needed so that the mercenaries can infiltrate a spy school when the guard regiments change over. All goes to plan for the mercenaries until an officer with the guard regiment notices that the Scottish uniforms the mercenaries are wearing has the knife worn on the wrong side. A fire fight ensues and the Saint pursues Roper towards the spy school, eventually killing him before he reaches his objective.
During his training with the mercenaries the Saint contacts the government at a pub on the cross country route. The pub used in the film is the Battleaxes on Butterfly lane.
