he 'Big Apple' has welcomed visitors to the Mumbles' Bracelet Bay, for generations, selling, gifts, Beach balls, Buckets & Spades, Ice Cream, sweets, candies, and food from the concrete building.
A unique apple-shaped ice cream kiosk which has been one of the favourite features of seaside Mumbles for around 80 years is back in business.
The distinctive green and red kiosk was nearly demolished when hit by a car last August.
Owners Ameco, which runs nearby Mumbles Pier, feared structural damage to the “Big Apple” was so bad it could not be repaired after the crash, in which the driver was slightly injured.
After the car crashed into the Big Apple, & the owners were considering demolishing it, But its popularity was made clear when more than 27,000 people joined a Facebook campaign for its reinstatement.
And another 1,300 signed an online petition calling for it to be saved.
Due to the huge demand for its return, John Bollom, managing director of Ameco, commissioned the rebuilding of the giant apple.
Mr Bollom said: “It was astonishing to see so many people calling for it to be repaired.
“Though I suppose it’s not surprising as generations of families have gone there for a snack or an ice cream and it holds lovely memories for many people.”
