Located in the historic Seattle Center, site of the 1962 World's Fair, this sculpture is located between the iconic Space Needle and the International Fountain.
The electric power generated is supplied to a recording of bird songs activated by a button. It is an interactive experience for visitors.
The plaque at the base of the sculpture reads:

As breezes fill the sail of the wind turbine, a small
generator sends an electric current to a battery that
powers the listening station. Sunshine on the pole
mounted solar panels also powers the artwork. The
birdsong of the Western Finch is available when
there is sufficient wind and sun energy.
In Autumn, finch colonies feed on the seeds of London
Plane trees such as those found growing on this site.
