The flag represents the Springfield Science Museum located at the Quadrangle in Springfield. The Springfield Science Museum dates back to 1859, when it was known as the Springfield Ethnological and Natural History Museum. In 1899 the current Museum of Natural History building opened. The limestone Art Deco facade was added to the building during the 1930's. The museum once again changed its name to the Springfield Science Museum in 1961. The flagpole is on the south side of Edwards Street, to the west of the building.
