The Crown land in this area was identified in the Vancouver Island Land Use Plan as an area that should be protected, and Cowichan River Provincial Park was established in 1995. The river itself is known for its fish habitat, although it is quickly becoming very well known as a great river for tubing!
A section of the Trans Canada Trail passes through the park and makes for some great hiking.
There are a 43 unit campground, 4 walk-in campsites, a group campsite, and 4 picnic areas.
