Established in 1929, the House of Myrtlewood (now officially renamed "The Oregon Connection"), has been a landmark in Coss Bay on Oregon's scenic southern coast. It is one of the oldest and largest myrtlewood factories and stores in Oregon. This rare broad leaf evergreen tree with its hard, beautifully grained wood grows only here on the southern Oregon coast to extreme northern California and in the Holy Land.
Ownership has changed over the years and recently the business was acquired by the non-profit organization, Star of Hope. Visitors are welcome to come in and browse and learn about myrtlewood and its unique properties, enjoy some Oregon fudge or ice cream, and enjoy the hospitality of the staff. There is also a self-guided tour of the factory - a fascinating look at how these beautiful wood products are made from log to finished piece. The tour begins with a ten-minute video followed by a self-guided tour around the key points of the factory where all aspects of production can be seen.
It is easily seen, with its large sign, on the south side of scenic Route 101 just after entering Coos Bay over the slough bridge, next to Arbys. There is ample parking in the gravel lot in front.
