The beer brewing in Vyškov has a long tradition dated back to medieval times. When bearing in mind that the Bishop Tas of Boskovice restored in 1460 the Vyškov burghers' brewing right extinguished during the Hussite Wars, it is evident that beer had been brewed in Vyškov even before the said wars. The brewing right was again confirmed in writing in favour of the town of Vyškov in years 1498 and 1588.
It implies that year 1680, the year stated as the year of the foundation of the Vyškov Brewery and the year of the completion of the today's brewery upon the order of the Bishop of Olomouc Karel of Lichtenstein, is not the point of origin of the beer brewing in Vyškov. The Diocese in Olomouc managed the brewery from 1680 to October 1855.
From here on to the end of year 1945, the brewery was leased to various occupants. In the period when the brewery was controlled by the lessees, the brewery was plagued by several fires; despite that, it was always redeveloped and reconditioned which may be demonstrated for instance by the installation of the equipment for the beer bottles filling as early as in year 1908.
The lessee's company was taken over by the national administration authorities in year 1945 and nationalised in year 1948. Currently, the brewery is a part of the company Jihomoravské pivovary, a.s.
The brewery has recently been modernised and its process equipment is on high level, which is demonstrated by the quality of all the products and a good deal of prizes awarded. However, beer has been produced in a traditional manner. Most of produced kinds of beer is sold in the network of shops in the whole Moravia.
