The Mariner is situated on The Stade, a street that faces on to Folkestone Harbour. In the tourist season and during good weather the area can be very busy with the pub doing a roaring trade. It also houses a restaurant that can also be very busy.
As Folkestone is more of a fishing port than a cargo port it is a little surprising that the pub is not called The Fisherman. The sign, however, could depict a scene from any port in any city throughout the world a couple of hundred years ago.
