In front of the Town Hall in Old Croydon, close to the boroughs major parks is a marvellous statue of Queen Victoria.
It celebrates a great queen whose support of the industrial revolution helped Croydon flourish in the late 19th Century.

The bronze statue shows the Queen sitting on a “throne” holding an item in her right hand.

The bronze statue is approximately 1.6m tall and stands on a 2m square stone plinth.

Dare I say “She is not amused”.

The plinth has a bronze plaque which reads:

Victoria regina et imperatrix 1837 - 1901

The sculptor of this statue was F. J. Williamson, Sc. Esher, and was erected in 1903.

It stands outside the Croydon Town Hall which has plenty of history and architectural interest.
Also nearby is a war memorial and a park which was once the cutting for the Croydon Central Station.
This park also has a plaque remembering the station and a pretty fountain (when it works)!
