Parque Natural de s'Albufera d'Es Grau, Illa den Colom i Cap de Favaritx is a 1947 hectares natural reserve located North of Mahon and an excelent habitat for many bird species, but also its morphology means visitors can observe them.
In a stunning beautiful setting, to the north of the city of Mahón, stands Cap de Favaritx and, opposite, a short way away, l'Illa d'en Colom. The ensemble shapes a coastline of gentle beaches, with several low rocky sections. Bird watching and the area's tourist attraction, make it one of the favourite places of visitors to the island.
There are three areas: the island of Colom, the Favàritx lighthouse Morella-meadow area and lake and the Albufera Meadow. Each area includes a large variety of ecosystems: wetlands, farmlands and pastures, wooded hills, coastal communities, cliffs, dunes and numerous beaches: S'Escala, Presili Creek, s'Arenal Morella, Turtle Creek, Knight Creek in Creek, sa Turret, Tamarells North, South Tamarells, Arenal d'en Mor, (island of Colom), the Tamarells (Colom island) and Playa d'es Grau.
Their main biological importance is the presence of over 100 bird species. The ensemble is made up of very old geological materials. (Devonian) and highly eroded, that are not permeable. On the coastline the beaches alternate with rocky sections, without them forming significant structures.
The access to the parc is unrestricted but you can only drive on asfalt roads.
In dirt roads and paths you can walk, ride a bike or horse.
This park is the heart of the Biosphere Reserve, which encompasses the entire island, which was declared of international interest in the MAB-UNESCO.
