At the road junction there is a lovely milestone. The west branch is the main valley road continuing north towards Newby Bridge, crossing the River Eea over this bridge.

On the junction is the entrance to Longlands Farm and a small grass area with modern traffic signs. The impressive milestone is also here, with the reversed S in Hawkshead.
