This equestrian statue of 1887 by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm was cast from captured guns. It shows the Duke, mounted on his horse Copenhagen. Around the statue are the guardsmen figures of a Grenadier, a Royal Highlander, a Welsh Fusilier and an Inniskilling Dragoon It stands opposite Aspley House, at one time the Duke’s London residence and now the home of the Wellington Museum.

The plinth is made from red granite and stands about ten feet (three metres) high. At each corner is a figure of a guardsman as mentioned above. These are about lifesize. On one side of the plinth is inscribed "Wellington" and on the other "1769-1852" in raised bronze letters/numerals.

The horse, Copenhagen, stands atop the plinth with Wellington mounted on his back. Wellington is in uniform and has a telescope in his right hand. His left hand is holding the reigns and a sword hangs from his left hip. Horse and rider are both facing Apsley House, Wellington's London home.
