This national pub chain seem to have a policy of naming their pubs after a local feature or historical figure. Eric Bartholomew is certainly local.

Eric Morecambe was born Eric Bartholomew on 14 May 1926. He changed his name taking the name of his birthplace on the north west coast of England.
His early career was as a solo artist on stage and later on radio.
Together with his comedy partner Ernie Wise, Eric Morecambe performed as one of the UK's favourite double acts. For many years 'The Morecambe and Wise Show' was a Saturday evening staple on British TV. He worked with Ernie from 1941 through to 1984.
Morecambe and Wise also performed on radio and stared in a number of films.
His trademark glasses are prominent on the statue here. The pose taken from the 'dance' that the duo would often perform when leaving the stage.
He left the stage after his final performance, joking 'Thank goodness that's over'. Moments later he collapsed dead of a heart attack.
