Three similar sculptures are placed on the slope below the library building of the College of the Holy Cross. Die Nacht (The Night) is the center sculpture.

A nude female figure is standing with her elbows raised in front of her face and her hands are crossed at the wrist,left over right, and pointing downward. Here right foot is firmly placed on a rock and her left foot is slightly raised and pointing down. The sculpture rests on a square concrete base.
The 84" X 25" X 26" sculpture was created in 1930 by Georg Kolbe and cast in bronze by Hermann Noack Bildgiesseri. A plaque at the base is inscribed:
