In 1940, this bandshell was erected, and opened under the name of the Leslie L. Diehl Bandshell. Crowds numbering 80,000 attended concerts in 1943.

The band shell itself has two bas reliefs decorating it, one on each side in front.

From 1940 through 1973, evening summer concerts were led by municipal band leader, Don Bassett.
