The Hilltop Inn is one of the most historic restaurant in Evansville, IN. It opened in 1839, over 170 years ago.
It was originally a stagecoach stop between the Wabash River and the Ohio River in the southwest corner of the state of Indiana. It was a pub/restaurant in half of the building and a feed mill/store in the other half.
It was bought by the Marx family in 1905 and was then named the Marx Tavern. In the 1950's, it was leased to a new tenant and was renamed "Robby's Hilltop Inn", which later was shortened to just "Hilltop Inn".
The restaurant has won a variety of acclaim and awards recently for its brain sandwich. It has been included on the front page of the Chicago Tribune newspaper, even with it being over 6 hours away. It was also named the "Manliest Restaurant in the World" in 2009.
