After the occupation of the country the Italian forces, in April of 1939, later reinforced by Germans, Albanians started a fierce guerilla fighting against the invaders.

In the small town of Lushnje there is a cemetery where one will find the tombs of about 300 hundred of these fighters. A rare thing, the red stars, symbol of the old regime, which were basically removed from all the country's monuments, are still present in this location.

The cemetery was build uphill, in steps. On the top of the complex, there is an interesting statue of a female partizan.
