This church sits across from the Copps Coliseum arena. The church is named after Peter Philpott, who was minister for 26 years. The congregation formed in 1892 and had their own property in 1898.

The architect was Charles Mills and he built the church in a greek revival style. The church belongs to the Associated Gospel.
